Celebrating Failure

1) This semester, I have had many failures. One particular instance is for sure the LSAT. So, currently I am studying for the LSAT which is a very serious exam for students who are trying to gain admittance into law school. I have just started an LSAT prep course and it was going rather well at the beginning, but then we took our first diagnostic. I did not do particularly well on it to say the least. I am hoping for a score of a 167 but I scored a 160 flat. I have a lot of work to do before I am able to get it up to where I would like it to be and my diagnostic score definitely proved that.

2) I was able to learn a lot from this failure. Not only did I learn the amount of time and effort that I need to put into the rest of my LSAT preparation, but I also learned something else very important. I really struggled with the score that I got for a while, it was not fun to feel this way, however, I just told myself that this is what the test is designed to do to people and this is what the test writers wants people to go through to uncover who will persevere.

3) I honestly did not handle this failure well. I really had trouble when some of the kids in my class were able to do very well on the exam and I was not. However, I just told myself that I needed more practice and that I just needed more time to learn some of the things on the exam. I let myself use it as a fuel to keep going and keep working towards my goal score.

This class has changed my view of failure, because it taught me to use failure as something that drives you to keep going towards your goal. I think that is a very important thing to learn in entrepreneurship. If you allow every failure to bring you down, then it is unlikely that you will reach your furthest potential. You have to take risk in this field. I am absolutely more willing to take a risk now than I was several months ago!

  1. Nick,

A decent amount of my friends are now getting into law school and I remember how hard they were studying for it. I can't even imagine the type of work you have to put in to get the grade you want. I think it says a lot that you are able to post your score and what you want out to your classmates. It shows how serious you are about it and how driven you are to succeed in it.

  2. I know it's overused but the only true failure is when one doesn't get up again. As long as you keep trying and giving it an honest effort by the 2nd or 3rd time taking these practice exams you'll be ready to score a great score and get into law school.
