Reading Reflection 2

I read the book by Scott Adams: How to fail at almost anything and still win big. I read this novel because as with many of my answers before, I have talked about learning from past mistakes and how that is crucial to success in life. That is why I chose to read this book.

1) The general theme of this book is that you cannot look at anything you fail at in life as a failure. Instead, you have to look at these instances as an opportunity to learn and succeed in the future. Having the attitude either you win or you learn is crucial.

2) It connected with what I was learning in this class because as you can tell I was able to answer most of the questions about myself with the fact that I think that I think that I want to learn from failed experiences rather than just experience failure. I recommended this ideology to the future students that they should adopt a similar attitude.

3) I would design an exercise that has to do with accepting failure as learning opportunities. I would make the students list some of their events in their life that they felt was a huge failure on their part. Then, I would ask them to write about what they could have possibly learn from this experience. I feel like this would show them that they could have learned from this experience.

4) My biggest aha moment came when this guy finally amassed his multi million dollar fortune after learning from all of his failures. In my opinion this guy had more failures than I would imagine any multi millionaire to have. That would have to be what surprised me most about the book.

  1. Nick,

I thought that your review of the book was very interesting and makes me want to take a look at it myself. In your first paragraph you stated how the book express how you can't look at anything as a failure. I think that is such an important part of being an entrepreneur because you will fail and you probably will fail a lot. While being able to fail, you are able to see what works and what does not. Failing builds mental toughness which I believe is a key part of entrepreneurship.
