Growing your social capital

1) The first person I interviewed was Moriah Adams who was a former juice manager at the former acai place on University Ave. 3 Natives. She is the person that I would qualify as the domain expert that I interviewed. She is a current student at the University of Florida, so she also falls into my desired segment. She clearly fills this spot because she is an expert in juicing the acai, and in the marketability of the business type. This person actually happens to be a close personal friend of mine. This person has laid out for me the type of business it is to run and exactly what I haven't anticipated in my thoughts about the business model. The return expectation is that she is brought up when looking for employees. This person not only has contacts within the acai industry, but she knows who is qualified for the positions within the business. She will be a great asset.

2) The next person I interviewed is Bradshaw Steele. I interviewed Bradshaw because he seems to be an expert on the market that I have been trying to infiltrate. He is a student at the University of Florida and the founder of a substance that someone takes to lose weight and gain energy. I am filling this person as a market expert. This person is in my fraternity so he is also a close personal friend of mine. The favor this person gave me is the knowledge of the market that I am trying to infiltrate. This person will be a very good addition to my corner, so I can always ask him for advice on the segment that I am trying to infiltrate.

3) Next I interviewed my friend's father Robert Dugan. Mr. Dugan is a distributor to healthy food businesses in Miami. This person is also a personal friend to me, and I was able to call him on the phone and speak to him. I am filling this person in the supplier group. This person was able to tell me what is easy in the distribution process to healthy food restaurants and what difficulties owners usually faced. It will be useful to have this man in my corner so that I can grow my contacts within the distribution sector.

Reflect: This experience will help me in the sense of using certain vocabulary when I go to networking events, that I know the words to use. Honestly, this event did not differ from the events that I participated in in the past.

  1. Nick,

Having a good friend that actually worked in the açaí place near campus can lead to a lot of success for yourself. I think that is a great resource to be able to find out what isn't so good about what that specific place has. Your friend will be able to tell you important facts based on her working experience on what could be done better and what you could do to top them.
