Testing the Hypothesis Part 1

1)Opportunity: There is not enough of a choice in the large acai market within Gainesville. There is only one main option and that menu only has two choices of acai on it.

2) The main opportunity here has to do with establishing a place that is solely run on the acai market. Instead of a place being a healthy eating place, with acai as an option, it will be a place that only has acai but in more of a customizable system (similar to that of Chipotle).

Who: Acai industry within Gainesville.
What: The industries that are currently available do not give customers the extent of the options that they would like to have.
Why: There has been no competition to which these current establishments need to revamp their menu to challenge.

3) Testing the Who: Currently the people who share this need are the only ones with it, however I feel as though with a newer establishment within the market in Gainesville will create new customers and acai lovers.

Testing the What: I feel as though it is just in the acai industry where we are noticing this kind of opportunity within Gainesville, it is not in all of the healthy eating options. There are many places for healthy eating options within Gainesville, however there is only one main option for acai and the options are not close to plentiful.

Testing the Why: I do believe that this issue is so simple as the why I have identified in the previous step is accurate for everyone involved. That seems to be the main issue with the market as of late.

4)Summaries of the Interviews: I have interviewed 5 people who all span the age range of people who I believed were prototypical customers. I have found that all 5 believe that there is a place in the acai market within Gainesville for an establishment with my idea. However, 3 of the 5 new people that I interviewed (I used the same opportunity for the last assignment that we did interviews) believed the establishment that is currently in control of the acai market within Gainesville to be sufficient for their acai needs at the moment. 2 of the 5 felt that the current establishment does not suffice their needs. Furthermore, the interviews went as expected with every self proclaimed acai lover. Every single one seemed excited at the thought of an establishment that would give them an opportunity to fully customize a bowl to their liking with any additions they could imagine.

5)What I learned: I learned that, while there is definitely a market for an establishment that I have thought up, it will not be as easy as I thought to take away the clientele from the current establishment. It seems that, although many people are not overjoyed with the current acai situation, they are satisfied enough for their current needs. However, I feel as though it is still very possible for an opportunity that I have identified to be very successful given the positive response that I received from all of my interviewees.

  1. Nick,

I think this is a very good idea. I think this because in my opinion, açaí is a very up and coming type of food. If there is an area where someone would be able to introduce it that would be a major opportunity to create business. I believe the case that you have with not as much options in Gainesville also works because you will be able to get a jump start since there are only two options and you know more about it.

  2. I've lived in Gainesville for a long time and I've seen many restaurants come and go throughout the years. plenty of restaurants started by UF students have come and gone down under because of how ruthless this market is. Unless you have something especially unique this idea will also go under.
