Figuring out buyer behavior

Segment: For this assignment I decided that my segment is going to be College students from the ages of 18-22, either male or female. I decided that this is the group of people that is most likely going to be interested in a customizable acai bowl experience. I interviewed 3 people following setting the segment: a 18 year old Freshman girl at UF, a 19 year old Sophomore male at UF, and a 22 year old senior girl at UF.

Interview 1: The first person I interviewed was a Freshman girl at the University of Florida, she is 18 years old. First, I made sure that she in fact had the need that I am attempting to solve, and she does. She said that she does not enjoy the fact that there is not a customizable option, however she eats the acai that is in the current market because it is the best she cant get. I then asked her what she does when this need arises as far as trying to fix the need. She said that once she looked up other acai options that she could drive to within Gainesville, but the closest one that would solve her need is in Jacksonville and not a realistic option.

Interview 2: The second person I interviewed was a sophomore male at UF. He is 19 years old and works out regularly and tries to maintain as healthy a diet as he possibly can while being a full time student. He does indeed have the need that I am looking for, because he likes to eat acai a few hours before he works out so that he has the energy to have an effective workout. However, he said he would rather be able to add different options to the bowls. I asked the same question that I asked the first person as far as what he does to combat his need. He said that he really does not do anything because there is nothing to do instead of just eat what is available and hope the menu and different options arise.

Interview 3: The third person I interviewed is a Senior girl at the University of Florida. She is 22 years old and she is graduating this semester. I first wanted to know if she had the need so I could continue interviewing her and she said that she absolutely has the need of wanting a customizable acai option and more options to put on the bowl other than "a handful of fruits". I then asked her the same question of what she does to solve this need that she has. She said a similar thing as the other interviewee and said she just deals with it and eats the current acai available.

Summary: Overall, I learned much about the current state of the segment I have narrowed in on. I have decided that the segment I have honed in on, is very in tune with their need awareness. They completely understand what they want as far as a need. From what I have gathered, they all have thought of the solution I have come up with already before. As far as actually going out and looking for solutions to their needs, they haven't come up with any real immediate answers.
